The Opportunity

The Northern Family & Domestic Violence Service (NFDVS) is the lead provider and access point for the integrated family violence service system in the Northern Metropolitan sub-region, providing a range of support services to women and their children who have experienced family violence.

The Specialist Family Violence Worker – Women’s Counsellor will work from a framework that promotes a woman’s sense of self and encourage her own empowerment and provide counselling to women who have experienced family violence.

Key Responsibilities

This role will operate within a collaborative and supportive team environment with a strong focus on partnerships with relevant external organisations.

The role will facilitate single-session, short-term and medium-term counselling to women who have experienced family violence along with group work as required that supports the recovery of impacts of family violence. A demonstrated understanding of the effects of violence and adversity on women and their infant/children/adolescents and an understanding of contemporary responses to these issues is key to succeeding in this role.

About You

You will be a tertiary qualified professional (minimum Bachelor level) with an understanding of the multi factorial contributors to the experience of family violence by an individual woman. You will have experience providing counselling to women who have experienced family violence and knowledge and understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and the ability to articulate a feminist practice framework, including the impact on women and children.
